Diversity on TV

The show I chose to talk about is the New Girl. Ok, I’m not a huge fan of the show; I only catch it on Hulu and half pay attention to it. This show however, makes a pretty decent attempt to be very inclusive. In just the main cast, there are four males and two females. Two of the men are African Americans, one guy is Jewish, and the other guy is just a regular American dude. The lead female is white, and the other is Indian. There is also a modest showing of diversity in supporting cast members and guest roles. One recent new addition was an Asian American girl in a guest role for a few episodes. The male members of the main cast are “goofball” type characters, both the females are ultra feminine, but the characters on the show don’t really perpetuate many racial stereotypes. Each character has their own quirks, but those quirks can be attributed to any ethnicity.
