I didn’t watch the Super Bowl, but I did watch some of the the
commercials. In the days after the Super Bowl aired, I heard people around
campus talking about the Nationwide commercial. I suppose most found it too
depressing, but they did get people talking. I didn’t even watch it, I just
kept hearing about it while walking on campus or in class. So I feel in that
respect, Ogilvy & Mather, the advertising agency that created that Nationwide
ad did a fantastic job.
However, the commercials I really wanted to talk about where
the two Budweiser commercials’ that aired. One for Budweiser, and one for Bud Light.
#BestBuds
The advertisements of Budweiser are great stories. This ad
was hyped even before it actually aired for the game. Will the adorable puppy
find it way home? Gasp! The suspense is killing me. This ad really went for
that “Aww” factor. It feels like they were marketing to a mature, more family
oriented crowd of people. The actual product was never even featured. They used
their symbols, the draft horses, to promote the product and tug at your
heartstrings. Also, I do enjoy the word play of the title, Best Buds. Buddy? Budweiser? It could go both ways
Real Life PacMan #UpForWhatever
This commercial plays off their current Up For Whatever campaign.
Where just one* of their beers can get you into a lot of “old school fun” The
whole ad is full of excitement, energy, and hype. Directly targeting a younger audience,
It has a completely different feel from the #BestBuds commercial. Bud Light marketed
as an edgier choice, for the calorie conscious young demographic. Sure seems
great for parties!
*you gotta drink responsibly. Surly two of those watery
beers could get you into too much trouble.
On that note, I don’t care how wonderful these Budweiser
commercials are. There is nothing in the word that can get me to drink one of
their “beers”!
